Iron Ore and Steel: Outlook to 2006-07

World steel production is forecast to increase by 67 million tonnes to 908 million tonnes in the five years to 2007, largely in response to rising demand in China. The volume of Australian iron ore exports is projected to increase by 17 per cent to 191 million tonnes in the five years to 2006-07, with earnings projected to remain relatively flat in real terms, at around $5.5 billion.
