EXPERIMENTS WITH ANIONIC EMUSIONS IN ARGENTINA ON COLE-COATED MATERIALS

1974
The results are presented of laboratory and in-situ tests on the use of cold-coated materials containing anionic emulsions. Details are given of the aggregates used and of the construction methods employed for wearing courses. In some bituminous surfacings it is sometimes impossible to utilize traditional hot-coated materials because of economic, technical, climatic or other reasons, and aggregates must be used in their natural moisture content conditions. This report describes various techniques of coating cold and wet aggregates with bituminous binder which must fulfil certain conditions. It was found that any type of asphaltic emulsion is suitable and, if judiciously selected, can produce high-quality bituminous mixtures for sub-bases, roadbases and wearing courses. /TRRL/
