Hospital Infection among Elderly Inpatients:Analysis of 350 Cases

OBJECTIVE To discuss the hospital infection causes affecting the elderly inpatients.METHODS Select the hospital infection date of patients aged 60 above,form Jan,2007 to Dec,2008,which had reported in Hospital infection monitoring management system.RESULTS Hospital infection varied in different age groups.Those who were older and with longer in-hospital time had a higher infection rate.The infection rates were high in intersive care unit and mental department.There were some main inducing factors including multi-diseases accompanying with diebetes,long time in bed,urinary intubation,injurous respiratory machine and arteriovenous catetherization.Pseudomonas and fungus were the main cause of diseases.CONCLUSIONS Strengthening the monitoring on the patients over 70 years old and those with multi-diseases accompanying with diebetes,reduceing invasive manipulations and shortening the in-hospital time could reduce the incidence of hospital infections among elderly inpaitents.
