Design management in the architectural engineering and construction sector : proceedings of the joint CIB W096 Architectural Management and CIB TG49. Architectural Engineering Conference held in conjunction with the 8th Brazilian Workshop on Building Design Management, University of Sao Paulo, 4-8 December 2008

Following the Denmark meeting, held in Lyngby 2005, the CIB W096 commission on Architectural Management merged its own meetings with two large events, the Adaptables Conference in Eindhoven 2006, and the CIB world Conference in Cape Town in 2007. Papers were invited under the theme Design Management in the Architectural and Engineering Sector, and aimed to look at how design management is performed in the Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sectors around the world - the main approaches and techniques, the challenges and opportunities - in an attempt to map and analyse "best in class" approaches. Explicitly papers were invited on documented cases from industry, demonstrating various aspects of best practice. This was chosen because the members of CIBW096 and TG 49 are acutely aware of the symbiosis between practice and research, bringing practice to research and vice versa. The theme was also chosen in an attempt to bring some current and topical techniques and ideas to Brazil, with cross fertilization of ideas between W096, TG 49 and the annual Brazilian workshop on Design Management .
