We are writing to raise awareness of xylitol toxicosis in dogs. Xylitol exists naturally in low concentrations in fruit and vegetables and is a normal intermediary in glucose metabolism. For people, it is used as a sweetener in many products, particularly sugar-free chewing gums and some chewable medications, where it will be listed as an excipient rather than active ingredient.
