Background: burns constitute a preventable trauma that compromises skin and underlying tissues, influenced by epidemiological, cultural, socioeconomic and environmental factors. Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality among patients hospitalized due to burns in the world. Objective: to report the main clinical characteristics of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection in a burned patient. Clinical case: 55-year-old patient, with a history of mental illness not specified, who suffered self-inflicted burns with alcohol. On the fifth day post-burn, he presented clinical signs of local infection with premature shedding and lesions to mouse worm. Conclusions: Pseudomonas aeruginosa constitutes a health problem. It is fundamental for the health professional to master the main clinical characteristics of infections by the above-mentioned pathogen in order to establish the most specific empirical antimicrobial treatment.
