Color stability and resistance to staining of resin veneering materials
1964
Abstract Comparative tests of color stability and resistance to staining were conducted on acrylic, polyvinyl, and epoxy types of dental veneering resins. Exposure to the ultraviolet light according to A.D.A. Specification No. 12 showed that the poly (methyl methacrylate) resin specimens withstood the test best, the polyvinyl acrylic resin resisted color change well, unless the ultraviolet light exposure was prolonged, and the epoxy resin became much darker. Staining tests based on boiling the samples in coffee and marking them with lipstick showed that only the epoxy resins retained staining marks. Cigarette smoke from a cigarette smoking machine caused no permanent stain on any resins tested.
