Relation between cytoplasmic male sterility and reactive oxygen species metabolism in pepper

The results revealed that from the early stage of PMC meiosis to pollen maturity, the relation of the three lines with super oxide activity did not obviously differed, and CAT and POD activities in the pollen of the male sterile line were significantly or extremely significantly lower than those of the maintainer and restorer, while O_(2)~(-.) formation efficiency and malondialdehyde content of the male sterile line were significantly or extremely significantly higher that those of the maintainer and restorer. Meantime, CAT activity of the maintainer was markedly higher than that of the restorer and SOD and POD activities of the restorer and maintainer did not markedly differ, because there were cytoplasmic andnuclear differences between the maintainer and restorer in pollen development.
