PLUTONIUM SURVEY WITH AN X-RAY SENSITIVE DETECTOR.

Traditionally, plutonium surveys have been conducted with alpha- sensitive detectors. More recently, however, x-ray detectors have been developed for this purpose. The design and performance of the low-energy x- and gamma-ray detector developed at LRL for plutonium survey are described. Presented also are the results of a plutonium survey conducted under field conditions with this detector and a conventional alpha survey instrument. (auth)
