Apparatus for a vehicle for adjusting the height of a vehicle body, which at one end a first means for articulation to a sprung mass (2) of the vehicle and at the other a second means for articulation on an unsprung mass (3) of the vehicle, a relative movement of the sprung and unsprung masses (2, 3) absorbing vibration damper (4) and a self-pumping, the sprung and unsprung masses (2, 3) resiliently against each other supporting the air spring (5), wherein the shock absorber (4) has an adjustable during operation damping characteristic, wherein the air spring (5) comprises an, at least partially by a movable wall (9) bounded at least, can be filled with compressed air spring chamber (10) and one of a pump cylinder (11) and an axially displaceable therein pump piston (12) confined pump chamber (13), which pump cylinder (11) on the sprung mass (2) and the pump piston (12) to the unsprung M asse (3) or vice versa, are supported, characterized in that, furthermore, the spring space (10) via at least one switchable connection valve (15) fluidly connected to the pump chamber (13) and the pump chamber (13) via at least one switchable connection valve (16) with the ambient atmosphere is connectable.
