Time-And Spaced-Resolved X-Ray Spectroscopy of Z-Driven Implosion Cores

2005
Summary form only given. We report on X-ray spectroscopic analysis of Ar-doped D 2 -filled implosion cores driven by a dynamic hohlraum Z-pinch. The observed line spectra include emissions from the Lyalpha, Lybeta, Lygamma, Healpha, Hebeta, Hegamma and Hedelta lines in H- and He-like Ar ions, and their associated He- and Li-like satellites. The data recorded using a crystal spectrometer with space-resolving slits and coupled to a framing camera results in time- and spatially-resolved Ar line spectra in the implosion core. The data analysis considers the effects of detailed Stark-broadened line profiles, optically thick collisional-radiative level population kinetics, and the transport of radiation through the core plasma. We will discuss the time-evolution of the electron temperature and density associated with spatially-resolved core slices as well as areal-densities based on the population of He- and H-like Ar ion ground states and fuel rhoR
