Commercial use of shoe presses has now passed the Quarter Century mark. In that time, shoe press applications have grown from only linerboard and corrugating medium to virtually all grades of paper and board. Shoe Presses are capable of creating high dryness for all grades and usually this dryness level translates to increased production. Nowadays nearly every new or rebuild press section is equipped with at least one shoe press. For shoe press applications, that are limited by restrictions of diameter, weight, measures or budget, Kiisters offers the newly designed X-Nip C (Compact) Shoe-Press. The article adresses: The basic shoe-press technology and the capability chara cteristics of a shoe press, as well as a comparison of X-Nip features of both, the normal size and the compact shoe-press {X-Nip C). Explanation of the typical X-Nip C characteristics (engineering) by means of different 3D-drawings. Application areas; including the discussion of economic aspects. "What if, ... "-Analysis ofdifferent scenarios as for example from newsprint production, coated papers and testliner.
