Construction Techniques for the Steel Arches of the 85-m Tied Arch Bridge at Nanxun

2006
With the new arch bridge at Nanxun of Huzhou, Zhejiang as a practical example, the paper outlines the construction processes related to the assembly of steel arch sections for the through tied arch bridge on soft soil foundation, and the forming and the erection of steel arches, etc. When the arch bridge was erected, arch sections were first assembled on the ground, the arch sections were then put together into an arch with the help of temporary supports, and the steel arches were hoisted in pairs in place with the help of a large floating crane. The local landform was also made use of by means of supports made up of universal members instead of anti-wind cables. Practice has proved the technique is successful.
