Design of a New On-Board Computer for the New KOMPSAT Bus

2005
KARI initiated to design a new on-board computer, which will be a key element of spacecraft electrical components, as the demands on reusability, expandability, and scalability of satellite bus has been increasingly required to easily accommodate various payloads of nature space programs in Korea. The new on-board computer adopted centralized processing architecture with ERC32 CPU by utilizing functional modular design concepts. The functional modules consist of software execution platform, TC-TM module including fault management, and integrated 10 processing module. The space wire standard provides a standard communication interface between modules. It allows simple cross-strap design for redundancy management and increases reusability of the modules. Power conversion modules and reconfiguration control unit embedded in the on-board computer will increase flexibility for module management. This paper presents summarized design process with several trade studies to finalize the design of the new onboard computer for the new KOMPSAT bus
