Dose, dosage regimen, and dose adjustment in organ failure

2021
Abstract The term “organ failure” refers to the situation in the body when a particular organ loses its ability to perform its desired function. Drug-dosing errors are often encountered in patients with organ system/s failure, leading to adverse effects. The dose of a drug or the dosage regimen needs to be altered based upon the body conditions. The dose adjustment becomes even more critical in the case of organ system failure. The dose reductions or lengthening of dosing interval are carried out to maintain the dose adjustment. This chapter gives an overview of drug dose adjustment in different organ failures.
