HIGH SPEED RAILWAYS AND SUBWAYS: GEOTECHNICAL ASPECTS OF TUNNELS AND TRACK FOUNDATIONS

1999
Geotechnical issues related to the construction of high speed railway and metro networks are, in some ways, common to other transportation infrastructure projects, but could also require special consideration in view of the specific loading conditions imposed to the structures or the particular environmental context in which they have to be built. This paper presents an overview of recent developments in this area, with particular emphasis on tunnel and rail infrastructure foundation design.
