The general arena in which the professional entomologist works, and the specific approaches and tools he or she uses have changed over the past 20 years. Energy needs and consumption have become paramount issues that have impact on all of society, public and private. including agriculture. The high cost of labor has become a limiting factor in agricultural production. Human health issues, now given high priority, have very direct implication for entomology.
