Trainingskurse in der praktischen Endoskopieausbildung: Erfahrungen mit GATE, einem überregionalen Kurskonzept der DGVS

2009
Education in GI endoscopy was up to now based on practicing on patients under the supervision of experienced endoscopists. Increasingly, different simulators for GI endoscopy are coming into use for practical skill training. A positive training effect and a shortened learning curve have already been demonstrated. A structured endoscopic education should combine this new training element with an adequate theoretical background. The GATE concept was developed by the "Munich Working Group of Gastroenterology (MAG)" for the German GI Society (DGVS). Each course module was approved by the DGVS. This new training concept combines structured practical training using diverse simulators with a theoretical background based on the guidelines of the DGVS, video sessions and, in case of endoscopic ultrasound courses, live demonstrations. Since 2002 more than 40 course modules have been realised in Munich and Berlin. Evaluations performed during four training courses revealed an improvement of practical skills as well as theoretical knowledge. Feedback of the participants indicated a high level of satisfaction with the course. The certification of further centres by the DGVS is desirable. This will also promote the realisation of a DGVS-supported standardised endoscopic educational curriculum.
