Performance and use of Helietta parvifolia (Gray) Benth. in Northeastern Mexico (with 2 tables)

In rural zones of Mexico, the demand for timber and forest products continues to increase. One of the promising indigenous hardwood species is Helietta parvifolia which occurs naturally in the dry and subtropical zones ofnortheastern Mexico. This paper describes its structure and economic yield in northeastern Mexico. Helietta parvifolia was sampled in seven study sites of native vegetation. The average population density was 1210 plants ha - 1 . The yield was 1455 fence posts ha - 1 with a dbh greater than 7 cm, corresponding to an economic return of US $1892 ha - 1 .
