Biliary atresia (BA) is a disease that affects the extrahepatic bile duct, leading to obstruction and triggering cholestatic syndrome in the neonatal period. This paper describes a clinical case of pediatric patient diagnosed with biliary atresia and aims to define about the clinical and epidemiological aspects of BA, its diagnostic investigation and the therapeutic management of this disease, highlighting the importance of the effective screening of hepatic cholestasis in order to perform the early diagnosis. In conclusion, the specialized care in the neonatal period crave longer survival with native liver and lower demand for liver transplantation in the short term.
