Strengthening behavior of B doped TiC particles on an Al–Zn–Mg alloy

2021
Abstract In this work, a novel AlTiC–B master alloy containing B doped TiC (TiC(B)) particles was applied to an Al–Zn–Mg alloy and the 1 wt.% TiC(B)/Al–Zn–Mg composite was synthesized. After hot extrusion, TiC(B) particles were found locating parallel to extruding direction. Both α–Al grains and precipitates in the composite have been refined. The yield strength and ultimate tensile strength of the composite are 455 MPa and 522 MPa, respectively, improved by 15.2% and 14.7% compared with the matrix alloy.
