Winding of presaturated carbon fibres

2016
In some specialized books even from the late 20th century we can find lot of theories about the high-strength carbon composite materials and expectations of their using primarily in the aerospace and astronautics. This idea is not accurate, because the area of their use has become widespread in many other sectors. Nowadays, winding of fibers, laminating fabric layers and many other operations for manufacturing the composite materials are used by producers in almost all sectors. This thesis describes a method of the carbon filament winding with respect to a possibility of changing local mechanical properties. The fundamental idea of this winding method is based on a registered patent, which was developed at the Technical University of Liberec. The head is formed by a base frame and two rotary wheels, which carry spools with material used for winding.  In the present work, the possibility of winding pre-saturated fibers was assessed. Technology seems similar the above mentioned "wet" method. However, It has been found some considerable pitfalls caused by the different behavior of the prepreg fibers and consequent higher loading arising in the entire mechanism, including the robot that carries it. This is primarily caused by the fact that pre-saturated fibers aren’t no ideally smooth and soft but rather sticky strips that need to be tightened with a bigger forces. Therefore, ensure the preload of fibers just during the winding process to ensure their regular layout is necessary. Several experiments on real device has been carried out to verify mechanical behavior of the individual elements and whole.
