LATE CONSEQUENCES WITH SMALL RONTGEN DOSES IN IRRADIATED CHILDREN (TENTATIVE REPORT)

1962
The authors searched for late reactions of radiation in children and young people, between the ages of 2 months and 5 years, who had been radiated on account of nontumorous diseases in the region of the throat. Ten to 15 years after the radiation 52 children and young people were examined. The examinations were carried out from the standpoint of radiotherapy, oto-rhino-laryngology, x- ray diagnostics, and pediatrics. In not quite half of those examimed local changes were stated and considered as late radiation damages: In 11 of those examined were disturbances of endocrinal coordination. Its appearance is, in the as yet small compilation, relatively high. Considering that the first observation of this kind is being dealt with, and that there are not sufficient objective criteria, the authors keep for themselves a final evaluation only after verification on a greater number of radiated children and a control group.
