Identification and Characterization of Regulatory Proteins of EBV

1987
Seeking to identify the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) proteins important for the switch from latency to productive infection we looked for transcripts which are the first to be expressed after superinfection of Raji cells with P3HR1 virus in Northern blot experiments. The following areas of the EBV genome were found to be transcribed: the BamHI M/S, the BamHI Z/R, and the BamHI B’W’I’ region. The latter region is deleted in the B95–8 strain. The expression of these regions was further examined by hybrid-selected translation, production of reading frame specific antisera and the use of antisera for analysis of the native viral proteins.
