Toxicology and Adverse Effects of Drugs Used for Immunosuppression in Organ Transplantation

Rapid progress in successful organ transplantation has been achieved over the last half century largely due to our control of transplant rejection. These developments in the early days were nonspecific, hazardous, and very toxic therapeutic maneuvers. Currently we employ several potent and very specific remedies that are relatively free of adverse effects. Several of the more important drugs used in immunosuppression are reviewed.
