1,6-Diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene as a fluorescence standard

1974
Abstract The absorption and fluorescence spectra, fluorescence yields and decay times of all trans -1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH) have been measured over a range of temperature in several different solvents. In non-polar solvents fluorescence yields decrease with increase of temperature whilst decay times are independent of temperature but vary with solvent in the systems examined between 0° and 100°C. The results are explained by a mechanism in which a configurational change is required for efficient fluorescence. DPH is suitable for development as a fluorescent standard for both yield and lifetime measurements.
