Expression of Survivin and TRAIL in hemangioma

The expression of Survivin and TRAIL in hemangioma were detected by SP immunohistochemical technique. The Survivin-positive rates in proliferative hemangioma, involuting hemangioma, vascular malformations were 76.9%(20/26), 35.7%(5/14) and 25%(4/16) respectively. There was significant difference among the three pathologies (P 0.01). The TRAIL-positive rates in proliferative hemangioma, involuting hemandioma, vascular malformations were 23.1% (6/26), 78.6%(11/14) and 0% respectively. There was significant difference among the three pathologies (P<0.01). The difference between involuting hemangioma and vascular malformations was also significant (P<0.05). Surrivin could suppress the apoptosis of endothelial cells whereas TRAIL could cause endothelial apoptosis
