Renin and angiotensinogen expression and functions in growth and apoptosis of human glioblastoma

2004
In addition to their functions in controlling vascular tone and natriohydric balance, the components of the renin–angiotensin system (RAS) may be involved in cell growth and survival. Angiotensin peptides may promote cell growth, whereas angiotensinogen (AGT) was shown to inhibit vascular cell growth and angiogenesis (Celerier et al, 2002). These functions may be of particular importance in human disorders related to growth dysfunctions, either increased proliferation such as cardiovascular remodelling and cancer, or diminished proliferation such as defects in tissue repair.
