Indirect Electrooxidation of Hydroxypivalaldehyde in an Undivided Electrolytic Cell

In an undivided electrolytic cell Br~- is oxidized to Br_2,which serves as an oxidant to convert hydroxypivalaldehyde to hydroxypivalic acid.Effects of temperature,pH,anode potential and concentration of reactants on current efficiency and selectivity were explored.The highest current efficiency was 61.9%,and the selectivity was generally greater than 90%.
