The Role of Meta-analyses in Clinical Research: Uses and Limitations

Meta-analyses and systematic reviews are key elements in the objective and systematic evaluation of health care interventions. Their value is increasingly acknowledged by health care professionals, researchers and policy makers. Faced with unmanageable amounts of information, these groups require reliable summaries of research on which to base clinical and policy decisions [1] and to guide future research.
