A process for the preparation of ammonium persulfate, comprising: (A) electrolysis of an aqueous solution of ammonium sulfate containing 30 to 44 includes wt .-% ammonium sulfate, as the starting material for the anode, wherein the sulfate ions only resulting from ammonium sulfate and ammonium ions in an amount of at least one equivalent of two times the molar amount present on the sulfate ions, as well as a 10 to 80 wt .-% aqueous sulfuric acid solution containing ammonium sulfate in a concentration range of 0 to 35 wt .-%, as a starting material for the cathode.
