RELATIVISTIC INCREASE OF BUBBLE DENSITY ON TRACKS OF FAST PARTICLES IN A FREON BUBBLE CHAMBER

1963
ABS>The observation and measurement of a relativistic rise of the bubble density along the path of highly energetic particles in the liquids CBrF/sub 3/, SF/sub 6/, and C/sub 3/F/sub 8/ is descr ibed. The increase in bubble density from minimum bubble density to the bubble density at gamma = 100 is (32 plus or minus 5)% in CBrF/sub 3/, and (16 plus or minus 5)% in SF/sub 6/ and CaF/sub 8/ . Approximate calculations of the energy spectrum of initially bound knock-on electrons showed that a delta -ray theory of bubble formation can explain the observed relativistic rise of the bubble density.
