Magnetic Resonance-guided Radiation Therapy to Boost Cervical Cancer When Brachytherapy is Not Available: A Case Report

Abstract A concomitant chemoradiotherapy followed by brachytherapy is considered to be standard care in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer. Management of the disease becomes a major therapeutic challenge when brachytherapy is not available and the patient declines referral to an expert center. In this case study, we report the case of a 66-year-old female with a large bilobular cervical stump cancer after supracervical hysterectomy for a benign disease, treated with external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) to pelvis with concomitant chemotherapy followed by magnetic resonance guided radiation therapy (MRgRT) boost. We discuss the advantages of MRgRT in this setting, particularly the clear visualization of the anatomy on daily set up and during treatments.
