A Microeconomic perspective on the production of Science and Higher Education

2008
I study two key institutions for the production and diffusion of innovations: universities and scientific journals. First, I argue that, under some circumstances, it is efficient to produce science and teaching in a single institution: universities. Second, I analyse empirically the relationship between scientific journal prices, their quality, their age, as well as the conduct of publishers. Third, I study how the objectives of scientific associations affect competition and entry on the market for scientific journals.Classification JEL – L21, L31, L44, O31, O38.
