Personal Minimums for Aviator Risk Management

1996
This paper discusses the results of the development of a personal minimums pilot training program to help general aviation pilots manage risks in their decisions about takeoff. Result of an initial field testing exercise in various locations around the USA are also presented. The key safety point to the training is the commitment of pilots to their self-developed minimums for flight which are expected to be more conservative than those established by the FAA. The field tests revealed high acceptance of the concept and the engaged learning method used in the presentation.
