Common Emergencies in Grownup Congenital Heart Disease. The number of patients with grown-up congenital heart disease (GUCH) is currently exceeding the number of children with congenital heart disease and is estimated to be approximately 25000 in Austria. GUCH patients often show complex pathophysiology and anatomy also after cardiac surgery. In case of complications they rapidly present as emergencies even if they are normally asymptomatic or only mildly symptomatic. Compared with the general population seen by emergency physicians GUCH emergencies are still rare.
