Chronic Complications in Diabetic Hemodialyzed Patients

1991
We studied the chronic complications in 12 type I diabetic uremic patients treated by hemodialysis. After a two-year-follow-up, we observed a relative stability of retinopathy and a general progression of cardiovascular complications. Patient survival was 100% at 1 year and 78% at 2 years. Blood pressure was well controlled in all the patients and the indexes of dialysis efficiency were satisfactory as well as the glycemic control. It is suggested that previous cardiovascular morbidity influences the course of complications in diabetic uremic patients.
