Case report describing neoprene allergy in a woman treated with a splint following a fracture of the radial styloid

A 57-year-old right hand dominant woman pre-sented to us with the history of fall on outstretchedhand on right side and sustained an undisplacedradial styloid fracture. She was seen on the sameday in accidentand emergency andwithin a week inorthopaedic clinic. She is other wise fit and healthywoman with no history of contact allergy or anyother type of allergy. It was a stable undisplacedradial styloid fracture and was treated with futurosplint. She saw her doctor within 3 days with irrita-tion under the splint and she was seen in a week inorthopaedic clinic with type IV hypersensitivityreaction presenting as acute contact dermatitis(Figs. 1 and 2). The lesions healed completely withthe removal of splint in 3 weeks time.
