A New Method of Selection Between Faulty and Healthy Circuits in Series Compensated Parallel Lines with Use of One-End Current Measurements

This paper describes a new algorithm for selection of faulty circuit in parallel series-compensated lines. It suits for protection of such lines and uses one-end phase currents measurements only. The developed method has been tested and evaluated using signals obtained from versatile computer simulations. A detailed models of considered transmission line including the SC&MOV banks as well as the measurement channels has been developed. Using these models, the reliable fault data on a double-circuit series-compensated transmission line, as well as for faults outside the line, have been generated under variety of fault scenarios. The sample results of algorithm operation evaluation are presented and discussed. Finally fast line protection concept, incorporating presented method, has also been tested and shown to perform as expected.
