NMR spectroscopic method for investigation of director reorientation in polymer nematics

A method is suggested to investigate the characteristic times of director reorientation and rotational viscosity in liquid crystal (LC) polymers oriented by a magnetic field. The method relies on comparison of two series of NMR spectra: those registered at various times in the course of LC director orientation and those registered at different angles between the director and the magnetic field. The method involves no additional model assumptions, relating the line shape to the angle between the director and the field. It also offers a tool for monitoring the changes taking place in the oriented structure during director reorientation
