A comparative study on belt-loop pyloric gastropexy with circumcostal pyloric gastropexy in dogs
2003
A comparative study on belt-loop pyloric gastropexy and circumcostal pyloric gastropexy was done in 12 apparently healthy mongrel dogs of either sex. The animals were divided into groups 1 and 2 of 6 animals. Each group was then subdivided into A and B sub groups of 3 animals each. Belt-loop pyloric gastropexy and circumcostal pyloric gastropexy was performed in groups 1 and 2 respectively. Animals of sub group A and B of either group were maintained for 20 to 40 days, respectively, after surgery. Sub-group 'A' animals were sacrificed on 20th and sub-group 'B' on 40th day post operation. Based on clinical, radiographical, gross and histopathological examinations, the efficacy of the 2 techniques was compared and concluded that belt-loop pyloric gastropexy is simpler and easier of the 2 techniques in treatment and prevention of relapse of gastric dilatation voluvlus (GDV) in dogs.
