Integrating MR Imaging Into the Clinical Workup of Pregnant Patients Suspected of Having Appendicitis Is Associated With a Lower Negative Laparotomy Rate: Single-Institution Study

At our institution, the introduction of MR imaging as an adjunct imaging test in the clinical workup of pregnant patients suspected of having appendicitis was associated with a 47% decrease in the negative laparotomy rate (from 55% to 29%, P = .02) without significantly changing the perforation rate (21% vs 26%, P > .99).
