Mercuric iodide single crystals for nuclear radiation detectors

Large size HgI/sub 2/ single crystals were grown using the modified temperature oscillation method with low dislocation densities in a relatively stable temperature environment. Radiation detectors were fabricated from the single crystals which showed good energy resolution with small polarization.
