Filter design for 1000BASE-T analog front ends

2002
This paper investigates the design of an analog receive filter with high-frequency boost for a 1000BASE-T analog front end. Several possible filter topologies are discussed and the most promising one is chosen based on system-level simulations. We then consider the nonidealities expected in an analog implementation of the proposed filter. Using behavioral simulations, the performance required of each circuit block is determined and the entire filter is specified to enable further circuit design. The results indicate that it is feasible to design a low-power, CMOS filter that will yield significant benefits in this application.
