Synthesis and Disproportionation of Mixed Ligand Ytterbium and Neodymium Organometallics Involving Cyclopentadienyl and Classical Chelate Ligands

Abstract By the reaction of Cp3Nd or Cp3Yb (Cp = C5H5) with 8-hydroxyquinoline (H-chel1) or o-aminophenol (H-chel2), seven compounds of the general formula CpnLn(chel)3-n (n = 1, 2; Ln = Nd, Yb.) have been synthesized. We have studied and compared their thermal stability and disproportionation reactions at moderately high temperatures. In preparing CpNd-(chel2)2, a mixture of disproportionated products, Cp2Nd(chel2) and Nd(chel2)3, has been obtained instead of CpNd(chel2)2.
