Apertura Piriformis ve Choana Çapları: Anatomik Bir Çalışma,

2013
Objective: Pyriform aperture, morfometry of the choana and the length of the airway is important anatomical structures for the physiological respiration. In the present study, we investigated that the diameter of the choana and pyriform apertura and the morphometric properties of the maxillary region on the skulls which are belonging to West Anatolian population. Materyal and method: In that study, 101 craniums of West Anatolian people with unknown ages and gender belonging to the Anatomy Laboratory of Dokuz Eylul University Medical School were examined. All skulls were accepted as adults because of tooth eruptions. Length of the Airway (AL); Height of Upper Anterior Face (UAFH), Pyriform Apertura (PAH) and the Choana (CH); Wide of the Upper Palate (UPW), the Choana (CW) and Pyriform Apertura (PAW) were measured. The collected data was analysed statistically by using SPSS 16.0. Results: The results are AL 49.01 ± 3.11 mm, UAFH 50.98 ± 3.57 mm, UPW 56.37 ± 4.85 mm, PAW 23.24 ± 2.00 mm ve PAH 33.03 ± 4.36 mm. CW 13.09 ± 1.56 mm and 13.33 ± 1.36 mm; CH 24.45 ± 2.61 mm and 23.77 ± 2.42 mm were measured, on the right and left sides, respectively. Conclusion: After the traffic accidents and injuries occuring during the sports activities, particularly the bones of the nasopharyngeal airway can be easily fractured. These fractures must be immediately treated with surgery. When osteotomy is necessary during the reconstructive rhinoplasty, surgeons need to know copmprehensive anatomy of the pyriform apertura. That study can manage the exact anatomical information about the landmarks of nasopharyngeal airway to the surgeons and the anthropologists
