Exclusive trend detector with variable observation windows for signal detection

1997
Many signals usually have their own steady value. Practical applications require the detection of both the positive trend above this value and the negative trend below it. This is the problem of exclusive trend detection. The authors discuss the use of an adaptive window in an exclusive trend detector. The observation window remains of short length for normal observation periods in order to capture the signal trend quicker; it automatically increases in length when the trend value exceeds a given threshold value, making the detector immune to unwanted signals while detecting the genuine signal trend.
