Lynne Brindley and the British Library 2000–2012

Lynne Brindley stepped down after twelve years as Chief Executive of the British Library at the end of July 2012. This article reviews the achievements of the British Library over the twelve years of Brindley's leadership. It concludes that the British Library developed as an important major cultural and scholarly institution in its flagship building at St Pancras and it became much more accessible to researchers, business users and the public. Brindley led a wide-reaching strategic development and modernization programme to ensure that the Library would be relevant, innovative and accessible in the digital age.
