Morphology controlled hydrothermal synthesis processes and emission near 2 µm of Tm3+‐doped Lu2O3nanostructures

2010
Hydrothermal syntheses at 185 °C for 24 h yield pure cubic Ia nanocrystalline Tm3+-doped Lu2O3 materials, whose morphologies are controlled through the conditions of the reaction. Chloride reagents under mild conditions produce rods of ∼15 µm length x 90 nm ∅ size. These nanorods exhibit photoluminescence at ∼1.95 µm, and fluorescence lifetime τ = 976 µs has been measured for 3F4 in the 2% mol Tm3+-doped Lu2O3 sample (© 2010 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
