The spectroscopic studies of new polymeric complexes of silver(I) and original mononuclear complexes of lanthanides(III) with benzimidazole-based hydrazone

Abstract Three new complexes of silver(I) ( 1 – 3 ) with (E)-2-(1-methyl-2-(1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene)hydrazinyl)-1H-benzoimidazole L were synthesized and the influence of counterions on crystal packing was investigated. Complexation reactions of L with lanthanides lead to formation of mononuclear complexes [Eu( L ) 3 ](CF 3 SO 3 ) 3 ( 4 ), [Gd( L )(NO 3 ) 3 (CH 3 CN)] ( 5 ) and [Tb( L )(NO 3 ) 3 (CH 3 CN)] ( 6 ). The ligand and complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy. The crystal structures of ligand and its silver(I) complexes were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The luminescent properties of ligand L and complexes have been studied in solution and solid state.
